This is Riverty: Inside Tallinn
In this story, colleagues from the Tallinn office open the door to their everyday work at Riverty.
Based on experiences shared by Joonas, Ritudisha, Teele, and Isuru, this article explores what brought them to Riverty, what keeps them here, and how their careers have grown. You will hear about the projects they are building, the AI tools shaping their work, and the real impact they have on customers and partners, alongside a glimpse into everyday life in the Tallinn office.
Why Did You Join Riverty?
Joonas: "My connection with the company started early in my career (in 2016), when it was still known as Arvato Financial Solutions. Back then I experienced firsthand the level of expertise and professionalism that defined the organization. After that chapter, I ran my own company for several years. I returned in 2019 because I knew this was a place where I would grow."
Ritudisha: "I was looking for a place where I feel heard and my knowledge was seen. Since the interview rounds, people seemed to be very friendly, asking my opinion which gave me a positive vibe about it."
Isuru: "I heard about Riverty from a friend. He told me it is a strong company with a good, open culture. I liked that it focuses not only on technology but also on people."
Teele: "I joined Riverty because I was excited about working in a company that builds and develops its own product. I was looking for a place where everyone is aligned around a shared goal and where the impact of my work would be visible. Riverty’s product impressed me, and I felt it was something meaningful that I wanted to contribute to and help grow."
What Makes You Stay at Riverty?
Joonas: "What keeps me here today is trust and autonomy. Building deep ownership in mission-critical systems takes time and once you achieve it, the work becomes meaningful. Also not being tied to a single project keeps things dynamic, impactful, and technically challenging."
Ritudisha: "Riverty provides a very supportive environment. I joined as a student and the support I got from Riverty is one of the reasons that I could succeed in both: being a full-time student and employee."
Isuru: "I stay because of the trust and teamwork. We are encouraged to share ideas, try new things, and work together. I feel that my work is valued here."
Teele: "First and foremost, my awesome team. I’m lucky to work with talented, supportive, and friendly people who also maintain high standards. That combination motivates me to improve every day. I also appreciate how diverse my role is: there’s always something new to learn, whether it’s related to business logic or technology. The constant growth and variety keep the work interesting."

How Has Your Career Grown at Riverty?
Joonas: "Over time, my role evolved from Software Engineer to Senior Software Engineer, and today to Lead Engineer. With each step came greater responsibility, ownership, and trust. In the beginning, my influence on architectural decisions was limited. By consistently delivering results and solving complex challenges, that trust steadily expanded."
Ritudisha: "I have been at Riverty for the last 4 years as a software engineer and before joining Riverty, I already had 5 years of experience as a backend engineer."
Isuru: "I started my career eight years ago as a Software Engineer in Sri Lanka. After some time, I found that I was very interested in cloud and DevOps. So I decided to change my career direction. Step by step, I moved into cloud roles, and now I work as a Senior Cloud Engineer at Riverty."
Teele: "I started at Riverty as a software engineer, and I’m still in that role, but with significantly more experience, confidence, and technical depth. Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of tasks and projects, which has allowed me to expand my skill set and explore new technologies and tools. The exposure to different challenges has been key to my growth."
What Is Team Culture Like?
Joonas: "We own our work end-to-end. Production incidents land on our table. We analyze issues openly, run retrospectives, and make decisions based on technical merit, not authorship. Shared responsibility drives both quality and motivation."
Ritudisha: "In my team, we have regular knowledge sharing session which helps me building confidence."
Isuru: "We have a very open and friendly culture. Everyone supports each other. If someone has a problem, we solve it together as a team."
Teele: "Our team values open and transparent communication. We actively discuss ideas, solutions, and improvements to ensure we make thoughtful decisions. Knowledge sharing is strongly encouraged, and we aim to make sure everyone understands our services well enough to solve issues and answer questions confidently. Collaboration and mutual support are central to how we work."
Projects

What are you building and what impact does it have?
Joonas: "My work centers around two systems. Payment Gateway processes over six million real-time transactions a year across PayPal, Visa, Mastercard and more. If it fails, payments don't go through. File Gateway handles what happens after the payment, making sure millions of direct debits are packaged correctly and sent to banks every day."
Ritudisha: "I work on the dunning reminder flow, which involves different types of communication like SMS, email etc. It enables customers to freely buy services or products for a time interval and pay for them collectively at the end of that period."
Isuru: "We are moving systems to the cloud to make them more scalable, reliable, and efficient. Our work improves system performance, security, and stability. This means customers have a better and smoother experience."
Teele: "Our team manages the Checkout API, a critical service that enables merchants and partners to offer Riverty's Buy Now, Pay Later payment methods. By ensuring reliable, secure, and seamless payment flows, we help merchants integrate Riverty's solutions easily."
What is your tech stack?
Joonas: "Built primarily with C#/.NET and Azure-based infrastructure, the platform is designed for availability, resilience, and clear ownership."
Ritudisha: "We mostly work on ASP.NET with C# as the programming language. In addition to that we use Terraform for infrastructure setup and different types of databases like MSSQL, Postgres and MongoDB."
Isuru: "We use Terraform for Infrastructure as Code and Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines. We work mainly on the Azure cloud platform."
Teele: "We work with technologies such as .NET, MongoDB, MS SQL, RabbitMQ and Kafka among others."
How are you using AI in your daily work?
Joonas: "AI significantly accelerates experimentation and improves design discussions. It helps challenge assumptions, validate ideas earlier, and explore alternatives before committing to implementation. It strengthens engineering thinking rather than replacing it."
Ritudisha: "AI has become an integral part part of our day-to-day life as a software engineer. Riverty supports usage of AI by providing necessary licenses and arranging various workshops."
Isuru: "AI helps me with code improvements and troubleshooting. It saves time and increases productivity."
Teele: "I mainly use AI to automate routine tasks, such as generating unit tests. I also use it as a virtual assistant to validate implementation ideas, explore potential solutions, and think through architectural decisions."
